With that in mind, i'm looking to expand my collection of worker placement/resource management games but have found myself with information overload. Multistep activities like heists or the infamous kessel run, requiring multiple rolls of the dice, with wins based on your character and crew’s skills. I've recently gotten into solo board gaming and have been having a blast with hadrian's wall and dune imperium.
In no particular order mine are 1.massive darkness 2.escape the dark castle 3.hostage. The card game something horrible has come to the city of arkham, and as the detective on the case, you need to find out what it is. Leaving earth is quite fun by yourself but is very mathy.
Maquis is a really great solo only game. Scythe, terraforming mars, robinson crusoe, arkham horror, sherlock holmaes: The gameplay is tight, thematically it works really well, the art is great, and i can play it fast.
Definitely changes based on scenario, but that's the allure i think. Luckily, there are now hundreds of great online board games that can be played over the internet, allowing you and your group to overcome some of the traditional barriers to enjoying a regular gaming session no matter how far apart you are. A game that is short and sweet as well as massively simple to master in just twenty or so minutes, the tiny epic galaxies is perhaps top of the list for best solo board games in terms of value.
It's not really a big board game that you can play solo but more a smaller dice pool and dice manipulation game. The card game nemo’s war mansions of madness (you will need a desktop or phone app to play this one) I feel like a lot of solo games work well solo, but they could use some improvement.
In general it appears as though uwe rosenberg is the king of these games. The only thing after playing like 15 games now, i'm still not sure if this game can be won with skill alone, or luck is needed. Mage knight board game (in case you didn't notice) is amazing as a solitaire game.
Eldritch horror + forsaken lore. A feast for odin, mage knight w/ lost legion, arkham horror: Friday is the best cheap solo i've played.
Mage knight is regarded as one of the best solo experiences in board gaming. I really like punishing games, so it's up my alley. It bridges the gap between tabletop and console gamers.
